The Kanex MultiSync Mini Keyboard is thin, lightweight, and portable. It can be paired with up to four devices simultaneously via Bluetooth 3.0. It’s the same size as the Apple wireless keyboard but even lighter in weight — a mere 12 ounces (340g). It is also thinner — only about 1/8 inch (3.2mm) at the front edge.

Kanex designed this keyboard to be portable. It’s small, light, and includes a velvety drawstring pouch so it will be protected in your bag or briefcase. The back of the keyboard is aluminum. The black Macintosh layout keys make an unobtrusive clickety sound and the feel is comfortably familiar. It is compatible with all Bluetooth enabled iOS devices, Bluetooth Macs, and 2nd, 3rd, and 4th generation Apple TVs. The keyboard’s 300Ah Lithium-ion battery is rechargeable using the included USB to micro-USB cable. It sleeps after thirty minutes of inactivity to save power.

FourKeys

Pairing the keyboard with up to four of your devices is easy by using the pairing button on the back. Each device is stored in memory. From then on, simultaneously pressing the fn key and the appropriate number key connects each device.

There are a couple of disappointments. Along the back edge of the keyboard there are a series of rear-facing mini-LEDs. One is for charging, another indicates Bluetooth connectivity. A third lights up when the Caps-lock key is on. Unless you pick up the keyboard and turn it around, you cannot see that light. The two feet on the back edge are self-adhesive. One came off the first day I used the keyboard. I pressed it back in place, but these should be more firmly attached or better yet, integral. This keyboard is plastic and aluminum and flexes if twisted. I recommend care when stuffing it in a bag or backpack so that it won’t be accidentally bent.

There are the usual Function keys along the top row. These double as controls for iDevices. For example, the 3 key is the Home button, 4 opens the Search screen, 5 brings up the iOS keyboard, 6 summons Siri.

Apart from the minor issues above, the Kanex MultiSync Mini Keyboard is a good choice for those needing a light travel keyboard. I’m not sure it will withstand the rigors of heavy day-to-day use. It wasn’t designed for that.

MyMac Review rating is 8 out of 10.
