MyMac.com Spotlight: Krishna M. Sadasivam

Who are the people behind the technology that we love so much? We know the products, the websites, the online personalities but we want to learn more!

Every week here at MyMac.com, we will spotlight a company, developer or person that supports Apple users by creating solutions or entertainment for the Mac, iPhone, iPad, Apple Watch, Apple TV and other platforms we all use and love by asking them to answer seven questions.

This week, we turn our attention to Krishna M. Sadasivam, creator of the PC Weenies

1 – How did you get your start in technology?

I started my journey into computing with an Apple IIGS, which had the following specs: 2.8 Mhz, 256KB of RAM and one 3.5” and one 5.25” floppy drive. It’s downright primitive by today’s standards, but there was a lot to love. It was my first computer, and I received it when I was a sophomore in high school. Prior to this, I was writing papers on my father’s typewriter. From the moment we brought the IIGS home from the computer store and set it up, I was in love. The IIGS was my first exposure to Apple, and its operating system, GS/OS, was very Mac-like. Using the IIGS made it very easy to switch to the Mac later on.

2 – What is your favorite computer of all time?

This is like a parent trying to choose his favorite kid. The Apple IIGS will always hold a special place in my heart because it was my first computer. On the Mac side, my favorite computer has been the 2008 Mac Pro (cheese-grater). It still sees regular use. As far as classic Macs go, I really like the looks and easy to access form factor of the Mac IIci.

3 – Tell us about your latest product / Website

I work as an illustrator / cartoonist, cranking out tech, office, and geek-centric comics for over sixteen years on my website (pcweenies.com).  My latest product is the Bob Weiner plushie, based on the rotund main character in my comic strip. Each order is custom made in the US by plush designer Ellen Ault. They’re totally rad!

4 – What was your first job?

My first work experience was as a newspaper delivery boy (yes, back when kids used to deliver the newspaper) in Niantic, Connecticut. I delivered the Hartford Courant in the morning before school and The Day in the afternoon. I’ve held jobs on and off since that period of time.

5 – What advice would you give to younger people just getting into technology?

There’s never been a better time to learn new things. With the wealth of resources at our disposal, you have no excuses. Pick a subject and go!

6 – Who was your inspiration?

I’m inspired by many folks, in many different fields. It’s difficult to point to one specific person as an influence. As a kid, I dreamed about being a cartoonist for the newspapers. I loved comic strips like “The Far Side”, “Garfield”, “Peanuts” and “Calvin and Hobbes”. As a teenager, I discovered Marvel comic books and amassed a range of influences from that sphere. Nowadays, I’m inspired by art-re-preneurs – artists who have leveraged their skill and give back to the community, though advice and mentorship. I look up to the pros who give back and share their knowledge. Folks like Stephen Silver, Tom Bancroft, Bobby Chiu are a few of those folks who inspire me.

7 – Where can people follow you online, and what is your website?
