Hi Laura-

I'm sorry you're having so many problems with the Seagate Drive. I also did a search on the Seagate web site and Google, and came up empty. I redownloaded the Dashboard installer, however there's no uninstaller with it. The Windows software has an uninstaller. I was able to drag my Seagate Dashboard to the trash, but I'm not having problems with it.

I'm going to forward your question to Nathan Papadopulos, Senior Manager of Retail Corporate Communications at Seagate. Hopefully he'll be able to solve your problem, or at least get you in touch with someone who can. In the mean time, here's the link for Technical Support.

Good luck, and keep me posted! Sorry I couldn't be more help.

I'm hoping you can help me with something, since the Seagate website seems singularly unhelpful. I just got a new Seagate Backup Plus for Mac and set it up for my iMac. My intent was to use it for backing up my files. I loaded the Dashboard, set the drive up in Time Machine, and let it start a backup. It worked fine for awhile, then I got an error message saying that the drive had been improperly disconnected (although I hadn't disconnected it). Now I can't get it to work at all. The Disk Repair utility can't see it, so I can't run a repair. When I try to find it in the Dashboard to run a diagnostic, it freezes not only the Dashboard app but my whole system. So . . . I thought I'd uninstall the Dashboard, but . . . I can't find out how to do that. It won't drag to the Trash. Right-clicking on the icon does nothing. I can't find an uninstaller anywhere. I'm lost. If you have any idea how I can uninstall that Dashboard, I would be eternally grateful. I can be reached at lauramctx at yahoo

Thanks.

Author's note: I was contacted by Nathan Papadopulos, Senior Manager of Retail Corporate Communications at Seagate. He has a clarification about getting the Seagate Backup Plus External Hard Drive ready to use:
<i>"Thank you for your recent write up of the Backup Plus. I'm writing to just clear up a few details that may have been over looked in your discussions with Eastwick about the product.
First of all I believe the drive you received was our cross platform sku, which requires that Mac OS users install the MacInstaller.dmg when connecting the drive. Seagate is the only HDD manufacturer that has taken into account that there are now numerous multi-platform households and offices that require the ability for an external drive to work on both platforms. We do this by providing a Paragon software which enables a Mac OS to write to the drive. Of course, there is always the option to select Mac Only. We also have a pre-formatted HSF+ "for Mac" drive for those that are not concerned with cross platform functionality."</i>
