Yes, I have taken that into account but those &quot;non-Geeks&quot; among us will only see the chart, and the chart says you can obtain astronomical light speed by using USB 3.
So this is my attempt to bring the other non-techs into the conversation by saying look, it&#039;s fast but it isn&#039;t any panacea and it doesn&#039;t seem to make file transfer in the wink of an eye.
Which is what one might think by looking at those charts.

It&#039;s unlikely that any hard disk can push data in &amp; out at the full theoretical speed of USB 3. And if history is any indicator, few things will be able to. Almost nothing hits USB 2&#039;s full theoretical speed because of it&#039;s heavy dependence on the CPU. As I&#039;m sure you know, that&#039;s why USB 2 hard disks are never anywhere near as fast as FireWire 400 despite the slightly higher theoretical speed.
