Brenthaven 5-in-1 for iPad – Review

5-in-1 for iPad
Company: Brenthaven
Price: $59.95 USD

With the iPad, things changed, at least case-wise they did. Getting a case for your iPhone is relatively simple; you want something to protect the iPhone. With the iPad, things got a little bit more complicated. Do you want to just carry the iPad in the case, protect the back of the case, protect the front and back, or are there other things that you want the iPad to be able to do when you want to use it? Can you use the case to angle the iPad so you can type or watch a video? Do you want to protect as much of the iPad as you can without  making things too complicated or too heavy to use? Brenthaven’s 5-in-1 for iPad may be the answer to your questions.

Rather then design a case that does one or two things with your iPad, Brenthaven went ahead and developed a case that handles five aspects of usage, giving the user a little more bang for the buck. Realistically, the 5-in-1 is a hardshell case that works to protect the iPad from impact damage that can really damage the iPad. First off, the case provides protection to your iPad, covering the back and the front, well about 95 percent of the front of your iPad, as you can see in the picture below. The back portion of the 5-in-1 consists of two pieces that join together to become one. The front portion of the case is one-piece that comes with a strap attached. When you take the front piece off, you simply slide it back onto the iPad, and the strap then allows you to hold the case/iPad securely while you read or scroll through an article or email.

If you want to use the 5-in-1 as a viewing stand, you simply place the front portion on the table or desk, with the slit farthest away from you. You then place the iPad horizontally in the slit, and you now have a viewing stand to watch a video or to read. When you take the 5-in-1, stand it horizontally with the slit closest to the table/desk, you can then place the iPad into the slit, utilizing the front cover to hold the iPad at an angle while you type. Brenthaven also provides you with a strap that can be used to secure the iPad in the case on the back of a front seat in a vehicle so that kids or passengers can watch a video while the car drives down the road.

So, Brenthaven has provided you with a case that now serves you as:

A Hardshell Case that protects both front and rear of your iPad

A Viewing Stand to watch videos or read articles or your email

A Typing Stand, holding your iPad so you can type with the iPad at an angle

A Case with a Handle, allowing you to comfortably hold the iPad in one hand while your read or use your iPad

A Headrest strap, allowing you to secure your iPad on the back of a car seat, allowing the kids or passengers to view videos while you drive down the road

I have carried the 5-in-1 around with me; in the house, at work, in a messenger bag along with my Macbook and even just in my “briefcase” bag that I normally use to and from work. The case has worked very well, no damage to my iPad and any fingerprints that have shown up on the matte finish, I’ve had no problem in removing just using a micro fiber cloth.

Brenthaven even made some improvements to the original design of the case by adding two half-moon cutouts on the back of the case, along with four small bumps. When you place your iPad into the cutout on the front cover, the bu

mps will stop your iPad from going in any further and by inserting the strap into a half-moon cutout, it holds the iPad securely in place so it can’t move. A good move on Brenthaven’s part, to continually improve the product for the consumer.

The 5-in-1 comes in two colors: Black or Metallic. So if you are looking for a case that provides more than just a little protection, check out Brenthaven’s 5-in-1 for the iPad. Again, price may cause some folks to stop and consider; however, if you take a look at what you’re getting for your money, it does appear to be worth the cost.

All in all, I give the Brenthaven 5-in-1 for iPad a My Mac rating of 9 out of a possible 10.
