The idox Traveler Series is a very unique product. Essentially it is a stand for your iPod that doubles as a case. It is available for the iPod Touch, 4g and 5g Nanos, and the 3G and 3GS iPhones.

As a stand it is fantastic. It holds your iPod snuggly in place and has a nice size base (about the size of the iPod) to keep it sturdy. I could easily see this being used in your car on a long trip and have it secured to your dashboard with something like velcro. It is also great for keep the iPod on your desk all day or even in an airplane on the tray table.

However, if you have an iPod case you probably will have to remove it to fit into the idox. I had to do that with my 2nd generation iPod Touch. If you have a very thin silicone case, it might work for you.

This is where the uniqueness comes in. The stand is also an iPod case. It is a very unique iPod case because unlike most cases it is not the same shape as your iPod or iPhone. In the case (no pun intended) of the idox I tested it for the iPod Touch it is about the size of a 3×4 index card. It also adds about 1/2 of an inch to the thickness of the iPod Touch and about 1 inch to the sides. So, it is not the kind of case you would want to take in your pocket.

With that being said, the case will protect your iPod. Plus, if you only use your iPod on your desk it will fill your needs fine.

The look of the idox is very nice. The one I tested was the platinum colored model. It also comes in all black and pink. It is the iMac aluminum-like finish on top and black on the bottom. The inside has a black rubber lip that holds the iPod firmly in place.

As for a rating this is a tough on to rate. It is a bit pricey for a stand, but it does double as a protective case. As an iPod stand I would give it an 8 out of 10. It is a fantastic stand and the only cons are having to remove any other case you might be using and it seems a bit pricey.

As a case I would give it a 6 out of 10. It does provide protection, but it is not the kind of thing you want to keep in your pocket, and iPhone users would have a really hard time using the phone features of the iPhone with this as your case. However, it is great for taking the iPod from your home desk to your work desk and protecting the iPod in between. If you use your iPod that way, this might be for you.
