Do you want a cool logo for your business card? or a fancy button for your website? but can’t afford the high end programs like Photoshop or Illustrator to create them? or maybe you don’t have the skills to make one from scratch If so ArtText 2 by BeLight Software allows you to do just that for a lot less money ($39.95).

ArtText allows you to make a logo, button for your website, funky text designs and more with a few clicks of the mouse. Once you have those parts of the design done you can apply numerous textures, patterns, and even make the design have a 3D look to it.  the amount of materials you can apply to your design for a dimensional look is impressive. From glass to metal to “artistic” you’ll find something that works for you.

Just because the name implies a Text/Font program there are more than fonts in ArtText 2. If you don’t consider yourself artistic there are over 200 pre-made designs that you can start with.  Pick a design, change the text or color or materials, save, and you’re done.

Even the seasoned professional could find a use for Art Text. It is a nice time saver for text effects or quick buttons for your website.

Once you are finished you can print your design or export it in TIFF, JPEG, PDF, EPS, GIFF and PNG formats.

The interface is fairly easy to use, but it has a slight learning curve.  The help guide is fairly thorough, but a tutorial for beginners would be nice.

A nice feature of ArtText 2 is the ability to use layers in your design. For those unfamiliar, layers allows you to create parts of the design separate from the other parts. As a result, you don’t have to worry about ruining a part of the design you like, or making a mistake and having to start over.

As a graphic artist, and someone who likes starting from scratch, I wanted to import my own design to apply effects to. I could not find this in the help guide, and tech support quickly responded to my inquiry. I was able to import an Adobe Illustrator file and apply the ArtText effects to it. I did find that the design had to be fairly simply. A complex design I imported with overlapping objects did not import correctly.

Overall, ArtText 2 is a nice program for those on a budget and want nice effects on the website or business card, or for those graphic artists who want to apply an effect fairly quickly.
