Frankly, when I received the Marware Protection Pack for review I wasn’t sure what to make of it, or if it would even prove useful, but before I spill all the beans on this review, I suppose I should describe what it is.

The Marware Protection Pack consists of a PVC leather cushioned hand rest and a soft microfiber keyboard cover and retails for around 20 bucks. Marware offers the Protection Pack for the iBook, Powerbook, MacBook (in both black and white), and MacBook Pro.

The cushioned handrest has a leather-like surface with an adhesive backing to stick it to your laptop. I was a little concerned, at first, that it would affect the magnetic closure on my MacBook. No worries there, I’ve been using the Protection Pack for almost 2 months and have no problems with the closure. My other concern was the adhesive backing. Marware states that it’s easy to remove and reapply, and it is. But I was thinking that with the amount of heat these new Intel laptops generate, the adhesive would eventually breakdown and leave a film of sticky goo on my handrest. Once again, no problems with the adhesive after 2 months of use – it still can be removed and reapplied as easily as the first day I tried it – with no messy residue. Mind you, the cushion is not the kind of thick wrist rest style pad you may be thinking, it’s more like a layer of skin over your handrest to prevent scratching from your wristwatch or bracelet. It also provides enough friction to hold you wrists or palms in place while typing away on your keyboard.

Finally, Marware also includes a soft cloth keyboard cover to protect you screen while you laptop is closed. Personally, I’m not sure how necessary it is, but the microfiber cover comes in handy for cleaning your screen, and 20 bucks is a little steep for just the adhesive handrest alone.

Overall, I’ve been very happy with the Marware Protection Pack, and if you’re obsessed with keeping you’re laptop in like-new condition (and your screen free of oily fingerprints), it’s a worthwhile investment.
