Good day Gentlemen,
I am writing to express my extraordinary dissatisfaction upon learning that one of my Macintosh computers will not be fully supported by OS X. I own a PowerBook G3, Bronze Keyboard. I purchased this computer in 1999 for the singular purpose of being able to make the transition to OS X. When this product was introduced, it was with the understanding that it would be a supported product for running Mac OS X. Now I have learned that video development in OSX for this PowerBook and many other supported Macintosh computers is no longer being planned. (Please see Apple Care Knowledge Base article, 106154.)

Preface
History is often written not by those who survive it, but by those who conquer the ones who survive. This is no less true for the business that conquers all the others.

MANDATORY TEXT AS FOLLOWS
“At the beginning of the New Era, a humble and honest man named William Gates established a remarkable new company that made its first astonishing creation called a Computer Operating System. This was back in the dark ages of Enlightenment and RightSpeak of nearly a century ago. “Bill,” as our glorious founder liked to be called, was the seminal inventor of every major computer application used in the first computers. Many also attribute to him that he was the secret creator of the first computer hardware as well, but that is another story.

First off, I need to admit to the world that I am not a graphics wizard. I can handle most word processors; hanging indents and tables of contents don’t frighten me in the least. Communications software is no big deal.
But when confronted with the intricacies of RGB, CMK, layers, filters, and DPI vs. LPI, my eyes tend to glaze over.

I admit I get a little excited by new technology introductions. Take the recent introduction of the Segway personal Mobility device. I was a bit over stimulated. I woke up early to watch the unveiling on Good Morning America. I was impressed that this new high tech gadget would go over gravel, ramps, snow and even ice. Heck, I can’t walk across ice without incurring several compound fractures. Still I felt underwhelmed where was the irresistible urge to acquire one? Perhaps, I mused, I am in the minority. Perhaps the more intelligent folks surrounding me think this new “personal mobility device” is incredibly impressive. Was my initial reaction indicative of the majority of folks? To answer this question I would need to do some serious research, contract with a couple of polling firms and spend big dough. I briefly considered pursuing this course of action and decided it would probably make for drier than usual reading. Instead I turned to my lovely wife who was also watching Good Morning America and asked her if she thought it was cool. The conversation is related below:

It’s been a while since the My Mac Interview column has been seen online, at least with my byline on it. I thought that maybe it was time to dust off the logo and see how things may have changed since my last interview. This month I had the pleasure of speaking with Mr. Brian Landwehr, President of Mediafour Corporation, a developer and publisher of cross-platform computer software. The reason that I contacted Mr. Landwehr was the announcement of XPod, (now called XPlay) a software program that will enable Window users to use Apple’s new iPod MP3 music player. So, sit back, relax and enjoy.

Over the past twenty-plus years of my working in the Massachusetts high technology industry, I have learned a lot of things, some good, and some not-so-good. Among the things I consider to be not-so-good, is a dark, mysterious thing which I have decided to call “Management Math”.
Now, what the heck is Management Math? Well, it’s a set of mathematical principals and formulas which apparently are known only to top-level executives in the high technology business. Don’t go looking for it in any text books at the high school level. And don’t try to find it the old college bookstore either. It just isn’t there. No, it’s not taught to anyone, anywhere. And I’m sure it’s very existence will be denied by big-time executives. But it does exist, and there is proof. The latest piece of evidence which proves the existence of Management Math was in the December 6th edition of the Boston Globe, Business edition. And it’s not pretty. Read on.
